High Achieving Women + Internalized Messages of Inadequacy = Imposter Syndrome

At Mount Holyoke College, we are surrounded by women who appear to have thought it, gone after it and achieved it all: most of the accomplishments occurring before the age of twenty. But, there are no Wonder Women here. Through research for the Frances Perkins Scholars Handbook, it was found that we do not lack for feelings of inadequacy and no one is immune to self-doubt, even though they may appear to be successful. What matters most is not whether we fear failing or looking foolish; it’s whether we give those fears power that keeps us from taking the actions needed to achieve our goals and passions.
