Hacking It In the Tech World: Working at a Start Up in Asia's Silicon Valley

When you think about start ups and technology the first word/location that probably comes to mind is Silicon Valley. This past summer I got to work at a legal technology firm in Hong Kong which is considered Asia's Silicon Valley. Not only was the firm it that I worked at a start up but it also provided a legal service that particularly marketed and targeted for as well as fostered start ups and entrepreneurs. Not only did I have to get used to a completely different city halfway across the world, but I got to dip my toe into an industry which I had no experience in as a politics major. It was really interesting to gain a business perspective, to work in a very nontraditional, non classical work environment with a nonhierarchical company dynamic that had an incredibly diverse and talented team, and to also see how the start up world works and how to build a business and become a successful entrepreneur with a strong and surviving start up.
