The Power of Questions—As insider view of inhouse strategy consulting

Are you interested in a career in consulting? What stories do large sets of data tell that help firms solve complex business problems? Have you ever wondered how to ask questions in a corporate setting? This summer, I worked as a Strategic Planning & Analysis intern at the corporate headquarter of Wyndham Worldwide, a global hospitality company. I worked on various quantitative projects with an internal strategy team. My work ranges from conducting root cause analysis using financial and marketing data, to making recommendation of company’s marketing strategy. The highlight of my experience was a company-wide case competition, and presenting our analysis in front of 90 people including company’s CEO. More importantly, I learned the importance of asking questions and examining problems from a different angle. I also gained invaluable insights in how data analytics transforms business decision-making process.
