Classroom Pedagogy

Home Intercultural Learning is a small school located just outside of Buenos Aires, Argentina that focuses on teaching English as a second language. While trying to navigate my first teaching experiences at this institution, I researched the work of Paulo Freire alongside observing classes and conducting classroom conversations. I struggled with this structure and found the work I carried out on a daily basis contradicted the work of Paulo Freire. I found that creating a classroom environment that was conducive to learning meant I needed to be more in touch with my students personally. Not knowing the language put up a barrier between myself and the pedagogical space I wanted to create. This panel will discuss the alienation of myself from my goals as an educator throughout the internship.
