Socio-Economic Internship at UNDP Jordan
In the past couple years, Jordan has witnessed a series of socio-economic challenges due to the refugee crises, dwindling resources, and economic instability. For my internship this summer, I worked as a Socio-economic intern for UNDP Jordan and focused on various development projects for host communities in the northern governorates of Irbid and Mafraq. Some of the projects included solid waste management, vocational training and job creation, and poverty alleviation. With a high unemployment rate, lack of support, and a predominantly young population, the development programs focused on empowering the low-income communities, especially the youth, by giving them the necessary means to enter the labor force.I will be discussing the nature of working in a large organization such as the UN and the experiences and insights I have taken with me that could benefit others hoping to pursue an internship abroad.
