NICEF, UNITED NATIONS, Vietnam: Mitigating Child Poverty through Research and Policy Briefs

Four out of every five ethnic minority children are in multidimensional poverty in Vietnam. Despite existing social assistance and social insurance public policies, there is high disparity in child poverty reduction rates. Why is it that the poor ethnic majority experience more poverty reduction than the ethnic minority? This, evidently, highlights the need to reform existing public policies. How can research, econometric analyses and policy briefs mitigate this problem? What work is the Social Protection team at United Nations doing to change this? The presentation includes a description of the panelist’s work at United Nations. She drafted policy briefs, conducted statistical data analysis and made policy recommendations through her independent research at UNICEF. Additionally, she will discuss what helped her prepare for this internship, what challenges she faced at her internship, how she overcame them and how her summer inspired her to write a senior thesis.
