A Different Side of Pakistan
As an aspiring investigative reporter, interning at a fashion magazine was not the life changing experience I was hoping for, but working tirelessly with a publication in my home town made me realize how there is a side of Pakistan that is so often ignored and unrepresented in popular media and this is what this presentation will shine light upon. One can hardly ever accurately assess how difficult or basic any task may be. When I decided to work at a Fashion & Lifestyle magazine, I wasn't aware of the obstacles that may emerge but I am glad that they did. Covering events for different social media plat forms seemed like a very undemanding task when I was first asked to but it but it did not remain so once I realized that photography is a highly male dominated profession in my country. From freezing at my first event, to having enough confidence to walk on the red carpet myself, I would say one never realizes what a learning experience any opportunity given can be.
