Racial Equity Work in the Public Sector
Lillie Benowitz will delve into her summer experience as an Urban Scholar through the City of Minneapolis in Minnesota. As an Urban Scholar she interned at the Minneapolis Public Schools’ Professional Development Department, focusing on racial equity and gender inclusion programming for teachers and administrators in the district. She attended weekly professional and leadership development with her Urban Scholars cohort. In her presentation, she will address the personal and professional growth that she experienced while working in extremely diverse environments. She will also talk about how her concept of a social justice career path was altered from working in the public sector.
