Don't Dam It: Changing the Conversation on Large Dams
Large hydropower projects have been considered a clean source of renewable energy for years. However, the devastating impacts large dams leave on a community and ecosystem are often overlooked in the conversation around climate change. During my internship with International Rivers, a human rights and environmental based NGO in Berkeley, California, I worked to change the "green" image of large dams. I researched large dams funded through climate finance mechanisms, such as the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism. My research contributed to a publication aiming to push policymakers to block large dams from receiving funding through the upcoming Green Climate Fund.
