Women LEAD: Empowering Young Women To Become Future Leaders
It is important to provide young women with the skills, support and opportunities to become leaders and change-makers in the world. This past summer, Megha went back to Nepal, her home country, and interned for a non profit organization called Women LEAD Nepal. Since 2011, Women LEAD have empowered more than 500 female high school students with the skills, support and opportunities needed to become leaders in their schools, communities, and their nation. Women LEAD is the only organization in Nepal specifically focused on empowering adolescent girls to be leaders. As an intern, Megha did intensive research and identified potential donors such as INGOs, foundations and governments. She got an opportunity to edit grant proposals using existing grant templates, assisted with special events planning and community outreach for the girls. In this panel, Megha will talk about how her concept of NGOs changed, the challenges of feeling foreign in her own home country, and how she was able to network with people with similar interests.
