Teaching Insight from a Counselor
Education is sometimes the piece missing which connects a diverse set of communities. In the same way, education can be the missing piece inside of us. This piece completes us and helps us learn about ourselves in connection to our place in this rapidly developing world. This past summer, I worked at MathPath, a mathematics camp for highly gifted middle school students. This camp was a home for the students and an enriching experience for me. Immersing myself in the counselor role opened my eyes to the realities of the teaching profession. In this presentation, we will discuss how MathPath was not only the missing piece for the students, but also for me as I took on a new role, taught “Discovery Learning“, and realized the importance of building relationships with students.
