A Glimpse into the Non-Profit World

In the past few years, various development efforts have been tried to avert the miserable living conditions of the underprivileged and mitigate the effects of poverty in developing countries such as Ethiopia. The Self Help Group (SHG); a community owned and managed poverty alleviation program is one of the development strategies designed to empower women and the unfortunate in general. Since SHG is a newly introduced development model in various NGO’s in Ethiopia, Jaleli’s main task during her internship at Care Ethiopia was to conduct an impact assessment on the program’s social and economic impact on the lives of local community members in Addis Ababa. In this panel, Jaleli seeks to share her findings of her research as well as her experiences working in a non-profit organization. She also aims to reflect on some of the challenges that she faced during her internship as well as the valuable skills she acquired.
