Scavenging the Internet & Communicating through Seoul: An ICT Internship Abroad
When international development comes to mind, one often thinks of the United States providing aid towards basic living needs and building physical infrastructure within a disaster-stricken or developing country. However, the work and aspirations of other 'primary donor' countries often go unannounced. This is especially the case if their development field is rarely examined within the United States. This presentation will introduce one student's multi-dimensional experience interning for a research institute in Seoul, South Korea dedicated to promoting overseas ICT development. Although not a new field, developing a country's Information and Communication Technology readiness is becoming an increasingly pertinent issue for governments in today's device-connected global economy. Chronicling her experience as an English-language research intern for an organization dedicated to advancement of women and their economic viability, this student hopes to spread more awareness of the ICT field, as well as encourage the pursuit of international internships as a valuable experience for growth and exploration.
