Challenges and Growth of Counseling in Bhutan
The presentation highlights my internship and research experience as a mental health trainee counselor at the National Referral Hospital in Bhutan. I will talk about counseling as a new concept in Bhutan, the growing need for counselors, the challenges experienced by a nation striving to enhance the psychological well being of its people, and the way forward for Bhutan in the counseling field. This opportunity peaked my interest mainly because the field of counseling is at its teething stage, and such a foreign concept carries with it a lot of stigma and judgement from the society. This concern made me think that whatever little contribution I make will make a difference to the country and its people.
