Beyond Mad Men: The Rise of Programmatic Advertising
The process by which ads are bought and sold is evolving at a mind-blowing pace and the digital advertising industry has been revolutionized by the introduction of programmatic advertising. Programmatic ads are delivered to a page within a fraction of a second, based on algorithms that take into account hundreds of dimensions, including purchase history, user profiles and browsing patterns. This often results in an overwhelming amount of data which is enormously difficult to handle efficiently. As an intern in the Product and Engineering division of Xaxis, a leader in programmatic advertising, I worked with engineers, product managers and traders all over the world to develop tools that power the global execution of Xaxis products at scale. In this presentation, I will discuss the challenges of thriving in an unfamiliar industry, the importance of having realistic expectations, and practical advice on how to make the most of your internship.
