Positive People make Positive Experiences

I study political theory and rocks, so logically my internship this summer involved lots and lots of numbers. I discovered the “business world,” which seems to be composed primarily of excel spreadsheets and numbers, through interning with New Forest Capital in Cambridge, MA. Although I learned many valuable lessons, such as how hard and how fast I had to work in order to catch up and keep up with the other interns who had been studying finance and accounting for years, I also discovered the immense difference a positive office outlook makes. I not only got the chance to learn how to value a business, how to create leveraged buyout models with seemingly magical Excel commands, and how to make multi-million dollar deal offers, but I also had the chance to work with ten people who were incredibly kind, patient, and funny. During this panel, I will be speaking about my time figuring out how to do numbers, but also my discovery that the people with whom you work make your experience, rather than whatever you type into a computer all day long.
