Creating a Digital City abstract
As a people we entrust our government to provide the governed with certain amenities. This is called Public Service. We trust that the amenities will be provided at a certain standard and we trust that they are done to make the lives of constituents easier. In our society, infrastructure, education, and housing are amongst the most important amenities that we entrust to our government. This summer I was given the opportunity to work in the public sector and serve the residents of the City of Boston. I worked with a team this summer to complete a task that has been an idea for the last five years which was to take Boston's permitting system out of City Hall and bring it online. Our team was challenged with the task of taking a 50 year old system and completely revamping it to give the residents of Boston a taste of the 21st century and demonstrate Boston's commitment to becoming a digital city.
