Sharing Art: Inspiring, Healing, and Dialogues Within Photography and Film
How do we engage art as a means of expression and communication? Art managers work behind the scenes to conceptualize and organize festivals, exhibitions, events and more, to facilitate conversations among creators and consumers. This panel draws upon a summer's experience at a visual art gallery and organization in Singapore, to consider how art is promoted and shared to spark discourses and bring communities together at a sociocultural level.
Liaising between filmmakers/photographers and the audience, art managers not only have to critically analyze art, the job demands creativity in finding the best ways to convey the artwork's message to audiences. Through my internship, I watched how images – both moving and still – reinstated life to a floundering business, showed the world through the eyes of the elderly, and brought play into the lives of a conservative populace.
