"I will serve others because I understand that when I lift others up, I also rise."- Pledge, Legal Outreach, INC.
Interning with Legal Outreach was far more than an internship with a non profit. In fact, this experience allowed me to learn and grow in many ways all while giving back to the very same college bound program that committed myself to all throughout high school. Legal Outreach, Inc. is a non- profit organization designed to serve and equip high school students for careers in the law field and everything related to the college application process. The goal is to have all students attend a college that is ranked within the top 50 colleges in America; thus, this program does this by not only providing SAT prep, but also internships at top law firms, college courses, and constitutional law debates. Having already completed the Summer Internship Program myself, my personal experiences were especially useful when designing the curriculum for the Friday debrief sessions in addition to the information sessions. As a coordinator for freshmen participating in the Summer Internship Program, I was in charge of contacting/ transferring many important documents to partners and associates of law firms, mentoring and tutoring students, creating a newsletter, and lastly, facilitating and teaching our Friday debrief sessions. In order to prepare for these Friday sessions, I had to do my own research and then create a quiz of which inquired about current events. Since the students are all interested in law, I used this quiz discussion period as a time to ask questions that would evoke their debate and critical analysis skills. This internship was extremely important to me as I cultivated many great skills during my time in this program; therefore, I was honored to give back to my program and more importantly, the next generation of students.
