Traversing through a World of Global Equity
As a Politics major, I decided to completely step out of my comfort zone and work for an enterprise which I had no exposure to. This summer, I took up the position of an Equity Research Analyst for Deutsche Regis, an associate of Deutsche Bank. My experiences went beyond the dealing room where I shadowed sales traders, and transcended the building of financial models at what was called the “research cave” where interns gathered on a regular basis. It surpassed our excursions to The Philippine Stock Exchange where we watched the stocks trade and tickers move. In addition to creating mathematical models, I learned the importance of making valuable connections, understanding all sides of the industry, and confronting unimaginable obstacles with great passion and tenacity.
Working at the financial hub of the Philippines, I got to train under the country’s leading equity broker. New concepts of corporate responsibility, institutional based service, investor-client relations, and financial models surfaced. This presentation explores the “sell-side” of the finance industry. It encompasses the corporate life of Manila, what it’s like to service institutional clients, and creating market value for stocks. Through my experience, I gained a multi-faceted understanding of career paths all across the board in the financial services industry. In this panel, you will leave with a more holistic understanding of our experiences interning for global markets spanning three different continents of the world.
