Does Your Major Really Matter?
As a Latin American Studies major I am often asked, what are you going to do with that?! This summer I worked as a research intern for the Research Institute on Social and Economic Policy (RISEP) in Miami, FL. Together with Florida International University and RISEP, I collaborated on "The State of Working Florida"; an economic policy publication that reports on the wages and working conditions of Florida employees. Drawing on the interdisciplinary strengths of my college major, I was able to apply the politics, economics, Spanish, & history courses I have taken in order to better interpret the patterns in the Florida economy.
