Who Cares About the "Bad Kids?"

When the courts deem children with serious behavioral and emotional difficulties to be unsafe, they are often sent to residential treatment facilities like Astor Services for Children and Families. I worked under a Board Certified Art Therapist, conducting therapeutic recreational activities ranging from cooking pesto to making watercolor paintings with kids ages 5-13 at the psychiatric hospital. In this presentation, I will illustrate that at Astor, I spent many hours struggling to maintain order in the classroom, but that the long days were 100% worth it if a child felt like they were successful for even 5 minutes.
