Assisting with Constituent Casework and Completing Research on Local Issues: Regional Politics in New York State's Capital Region
How can the regional offices of public officials work to assist local constituents? This summer I had the opportunity to intern at New York State Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's Albany Regional Office. I was able to assist constituents with a vast variety of issues on a daily basis including casework, legislative research, and specific local concerns. Therefore, I was regularly able to help make politics work for local constituents across New York State's Capital Region by opening lines of communication between political offices and individual constituents. Moreover, I compiled research material regarding local issues and also the opinions of constituents regarding those concerns. Through the completion of this research, as well as my ongoing communication with constituents throughout the summer, I was able to assist in recording and furthering constituents viewpoints and therefore, allow political means to assist local constituents with many important issues.
