NGO Branches and Bodies - Making the Global Local
How do NGOs effectively dictate the relationship between government bodies and the community? How do these NGO’s work interdependently with one another to effectively bridge the gaps in these communities needs. At Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), a non profit, non governmental organization dedicated to government transparency, particularly advocacy for children in government custody, I was the communications and advocacy planning intern. In that capacity, I was able to see how these branches of the Jamaican NGO body worked smoothly to address the concerns of the general population. My academic background, with a major in International Relations and course work in social movements allowed me to further explore the organization. My LEAP presentation will seek to explore my responsibilities and the ways in which my particular academic and extracurricular activities facilitated my integration into the JFJ team.
