Fashion with a Conscience: a Social Non-Profit Enterprise Partnering with Rwandan Cooperatives to Empower Entrepreneurial Women
Indego Africa is a lifestyle brand working with twenty-three Rwandan cooperatives comprised of more than eight hundred women to design, and sell handmade products in a global market. The artisans earn fair trade wages for their work, and 100% of profits from sales, and donations go towards funding professional development programs in entrepreneurial skills. In her presentation, Céline Mudahakana will discuss what she learned while interning in product development, and fundraising at Indego Africa’s home office in New York City. She will discuss the different aspects of retailing in a global context, entrepreneurship, and non-profit fundraising. Furthermore, Céline will discuss the path she took to secure the internship, and the challenges she faced working in a new environment.
