Observe Then Innovate

Most often we look at internships as platforms to gain more experience so as to be a better package for the next employer. Internships are painted as the perfect ladder to further a career. Most often, we position ourselves so as to acquire as many skills as possible in the given opportunity, and ignore that we can also just use the space to investigate. This summer I completed an internship with a non-profit focused on global health. I am not particularly drawn to the field but I was there rather to observe the world of a fully developed nonprofit. In this panel, I seek to reflect on how an internship can be a space to construct your own venture. This panel is the story of how to learn to build your own industry from walking in one else’s moccasins.
