Exploring French History and Culture at the Château de Chantilly

The Musée Condé at the Château de Chantilly holds France’s second largest collection of antique paintings after the Louvre. This summer I plunged into the history of this beautiful castle, walked gardens originally created by André le Nôtre, and tasted crème Chantilly. I conducted daily tours in English of the castle rooms and the immense art collection. I truly had a crash course in French history and art as I prepared for my tours. When not touring the castle I welcomed guests from around the world and answered questions. The first few weeks in Chantilly challenged me in many ways. I needed to adjust to the language immersion and the cultural differences in the working environment. Ultimately this summer taught me how to take charge of a situation, command attention, and think on my feet.
