The Transition from Philosophy Towards Consulting
While my double major of Philosophy and Africana Studies does not necessarily place me on the direct path towards a consulting firm, the all encompassing education at Mount Holyoke and power of networking landed me a spot at one of America’s top firms. Spending my summer in Shanghai with The Parthenon Group not only gave me the space to use my skills in a foreign environment but acquire news ones. My presentation will outline my various responsibilities from directing a company spoof video to editing final proposals and my challenges as the only international intern. Many people who choose majors similar to mine are accustomed to the question: “What can you do with that?” I never had an answer until after this summer where I realized that a Liberal Arts background is applicable to the business world and even useful. In addition, I will discuss being in an environment foreign to my home and how my ability to adapt and be resourceful allowed me to have a successful summer internship, which created the pathway for a career I will pursue after graduation.
