Ordinary Excel, Extraordinary Results
With the advancement of technologies, more and more people benefit from the increasingly affordable and accessible medical devices to improve their quality of life. However, the growing usage of medical devices also results in a staggering number of Medical Device-associated Adverse Events (MDAEs) in hospital emergency departments. It becomes essential to evaluate the burden of public health by such events. Over the past summer, I interned at the Division of Epidemiology, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for both clinical statistical analysis and literature reviews on postmarketing surveillance. In this presentation, I want to share with you how I conducted reviews on the current situation of medical devices through data analysis, mostly using Microsoft Excel, and what had prepared me to carry out the projects confidently. More importantly, I hope the lessons and skills I learned from my colleagues will further your life-long learning desire as well.
