Exploring Interests in International Development: A Non-profit Work Experience
Issues of development have always been at the peak of my interest. Yet, I am still amazed at the new perspectives that my work as an intern at the Gbowee Peace Foundation (GPFUSA) in New York exposed me to. This organization is dedicated to building awareness of the rights of girls and women; and promoting peace, security and reconciliation in different countries, with a keen interest in Liberia, West Africa. Through this internship, I was able to evaluate the framework of various NGOs and their impact on individuals and societies. Conducting research on donor and grant opportunities while supporting the fundraising activities of the foundation provided a hands-on-experience of proceedings required to support the cause of development efforts in broken communities. This presentation will expose you to my learning experiences, challenges and successes as an intern.
