A Summer with the Senate

As an intern for Senator Jack Reed, Madeline Kirsch tracked legislation, researched constituent issues, national and international events, and attended Congressional hearings and other events, on which she regularly briefed the staff. Additionally, she read and summarized materials about a variety of issues, which included her state's passage of the Homeless Bill of Rights, the current housing shortage for rural Americans, and current attempts to hold bank-holding companies accountable for their actions. She also experienced daily life on Capitol Hill, attended lectures by David Brooks and Elena Kagan, and made frequent trips to the Capitol to escort visitors and other guests.
