Farming Social Change.

The transformation of blighted land into productive and attractive community garden and farmland positively influences the social, individual and economic health of a community. The Partridge Creek Farm is located in a small city called Ishpeming in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is an educational farm providing direct service and outreach to a troubled community. With a focus on accessible community based education we brought in local children and adults and built up a beautiful community farm that the whole town could be proud of. Vegetables were donated weekly, given to volunteers, and sold at local farmer’s markets where we welcomed people with SNAP benefits as well as other forms of governmental aid to buy fresh produce. We received a very positive response from the community despite difficulties with local government as well as an act of vandalism that only served to make the community stronger as they rallied in support of their farm.
