How to Intern at a Butterfly Farm
“-a butterfly farm? You interned at a butterfly farm??” is typically the response I get before I even go into the details about my internship this summer.
Museums and zoos all over the world have conservatories or butterfly houses that display various species of butterflies. Where do all of these butterflies come from? For about four weeks, I interned at the Penang Butterfly Farm in Penang, Malaysia, conducting case studies, teaching, and helping to care for the animals on the farm. This presentation will show the results of my research as well as describe my other responsibilities on the farm, such as packing butterfly chrysalis, exchanging habitat for praying mantises, filtering beetle larva, etc.
This presentation also hopes to explain solutions to unforeseen obstacles on interning abroad. This includes speaking to people in different languages to planning ahead in the application process.
