Don’t Panic, Even if Life, the Universe and Everything Goes Awry

One of the most important things scientists learn when designing experiments is to control external variables, but what happens when variables arise that cannot be controlled? This was what I learned over the summer working in a lab that utilized Wistar rats as animal models to study the effects of Chinese medicine on premature ovarian failure. I faced both scientific and social challenges, but ended the summer with new skills from a unique experience. By reflecting upon my internship, I hope to educate students about the obstacles they may face and how to overcome them.
