Perceptual Abnormalities Associated with Amygdala  Hyperconnectivity in Prodromal Schizophrenia

Perceptual abnormalities and hallucinations are two principal symptoms of schizophrenia, a psychological disorder that affects 1% of the world population. During my internship at the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit at the University of Vermont, I designed and executed an independent research project analyzing the fMRI scans of patients with prodromal schizophrenia. I explored the hyperconnectivity between distinct brain regions that may arise when subjects repeatedly experience perceptual abnormalities. In my presentation, I will discuss my research, and will talk about my experience working in the Neuroscience field under the supervision of a female primary investigator.
