Doing Something Different: When Your Internship Isn’t in Your Major

As a Special Events intern at WGBH Educational Foundation, I mostly worked on creating and overseeing events, but at the same time, these events were community outreach points. We worked to really draw people to the studios and to open the viewer base of PBS shows and events. I worked on events for multiple age groups, from a children’s carnival to a lecture series on Investigative Journalism. There was planning for immediate events, as well as researching for events several months down the road - primarily one to teach children about ecosystems and plant/animal life. This internship taught me a lot about how to follow through - and follow up - with projects, but I also had a difficult time relating it to my major - International Relations/History - and my past internships.
