Research, Policy, and Educational Gaps

Over the past decade, people have become accustomed to hearing about global climate change and its effects. Most people know the scientific background of climate change. However, not everyone know about the policies being made in order to mitigate or adapt to the changes brought on by this global phenomenon. This past summer, I interned at a Coral Reef research center in Palau. There, not only did I learn more about research and how it influences policy development decisions, I learned more about the process of policy development.

There is a disconnect between researchers and policy makers and the public regarding any information about climate change policy. At the Coral Reef Center, I was able to help with connecting this gap between the parties. Through educational programs, people become more aware of the problem and can be comforted by the fact that there are solutions.
