Out of the Comfort Zone: Working in a Study Abroad Office
Saint Augustine said that "the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page," meaning that real learning comes from experiencing different cultures. A classroom can expand your knowledge of a subject but true understanding comes from experience. This quote was also the motto of the Center for Cross-Cultural Studies, the study abroad office I worked at in Seville, Spain this summer. I was able to realize the importance of international education and cultural exchange and the challenges of working in an international environment. In this presentation, I intend to address these challenges as well as highlight the significance of a cross-cultural education. Playing it safe does not move you forward, you learn best when you are out of your comfort zone.
