Translation in Its Most Literal Sense: Interning at the Cineteca di Bologna
What do you learn when you sit down and watch a film? You probably experience more cultural exposure than you realize. Films from varying cultures, languages, and time periods call their viewers to view an imagined world through someone else's perspective, specifically that of a camera lens. At the Cineteca di Bologna, I worked with vintage films from the beginning of the twentieth century through the 1950's. I transcribed their dialogues to later be translated into Italian and French for an international audience. While I concentrated upon the communication between characters of a film, the overall scope of Cineteca work was to communicate to the largest audience possible.
