Beyond Haiti's Mountains: Shifting the Western Perspective
Some may know Haiti, for its tragedies, like the 2010 Earthquake or the fact that is one of the poorest countries globally . These events do deeply affect Haiti , but it does not fully characterize the country. In my presentation I will present a different perspective of Haiti and delve into my experience this summer as a Medical Intern in Cap Haitien, Haiti. As an intern, I was exposed to Haiti's community and health culture and my experiences caused me to question my stereotypical western perspective. I will be discussing the trials and successes of the health sector in Haiti and also acknowledging the environmental and reproductive issues that it has . How or how not these issues are being resolved will be also addressed. My presentation will examine the role other nations take in assisting Haiti's public health issues, as well as, what position, if any, we should take in tackling these issues.
