Payroll deductions are made in equal installments based on an employee's pay schedule. Some deductions are required by law and others are determined by your participation in benefit plans and other programs.
Withholding for Federal Income Tax
This deduction is computed from Internal Revenue Service tax tables based on the number of exemptions you claim on your Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate (W-4) form. If you wish to change the number of exemptions or to request larger withholding, you must complete a new form at the Human Resources Department.
Withholding for Massachusetts Income Tax
Similar to the withholding for federal income tax, this deduction is computed from state tax tables based on the number of exemptions you claim on your Massachusetts Employee's Withholding Certificate (M-4) form.
Federal Social Security Tax
The following payroll deductions are based on the plans or programs in which you elect to participate:
- Your share of College-sponsored group benefit plans such as medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, or retirement (some of these are mandatory at particular ages; see the Benefits section for details)
- Contributions to Mount Holyoke Community Campaign
- Contributions to a tax deferred annuity plan for those eligible
- Rental payments for College housing
- Credit Union deductions
Direct any questions regarding deductions to the Human Resources Department.
