The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) requires that employer-sponsored health plans offer certain employees and their family members the opportunity to continue coverage after such coverage would have normally ceased. You will receive a notice shortly after enrolling in a health insurance plan of your rights under COBRA.
Under the COBRA regulations, your present health insurance coverage may be continued after termination of employment without interruption for up to 18 months (more than 18 months in some circumstances). An election form will be mailed to you upon termination and if you elect continued coverage, you will be billed for the appropriate premiums plus a 2% administrative fee.
