Early Retirement Program

Please see the dean of faculty resource site on my.mtholyoke.

Effective July 1, 2004, Mount Holyoke College offers a voluntary early retirement plan for eligible faculty and certain administrative staff. The early retirement choice is a  phased retirement option available for three years between ages 58 to 70. The College continues to consider 65 to be the normal retirement age.

Eligibility

While the retirement plan has been designed with faculty members in mind, certain executive and administrative staff members are not precluded from considering these options. Staff members who wish to be considered for phased retirement must have at least 10 years of full-time service or its equivalent at the end of the year prior to the first proposed year of early retirement may apply to participate in the plan.  Staff are expected to provide a written request stating the proposed date of early retirement at least one fiscal year in advance of that date with prior approval from the appropriate Senior Staff member. A staff member's participation in the early retirement program will be approved only when it can be accommodated without negatively affecting the effective functioning of the department. The program will be reviewed annually by the Board of Trustees and is, therefore, subject to change.

Additional Information

Eligibility for children's tuition benefits, for study either at Mount Holyoke or other institutions, continues during the period of early retirement. Spouses and children of early retirees may continue to attend individual courses at Mount Holyoke on the same basis as full-time active employees.
