An Insider on the Outside

Good research is often identified by the researcher's ability to remain objective, but is it possible to leave your identities behind while conducting research that relates to YOUR experience? As a first generation American-born Dominican in her family, Dianna Tejada balanced her identities while conducting research that provides representation where it is nonexistent, because the personal is, in fact, political. Dianna Tejada conducted independent autoethnographic research in her mother country- La Republica Dominicana- attempting to better understand the way that women's sexualities have been treated in both the public sphere and behind closed doors- metaphorically and literally. In this panel discussion, Dianna will describe her experience in La Republica Dominicana exploring what many have been unable to...as an insider on the outside.
