Fieldwork on the Freedom Trail

Anthropology is not just elsewhere. Fieldworking in Boston, the very capital of Massachusetts, can be a very challenging yet interesting cultural anthropological experience, especially for an international student. This summer, I conducted independent ethnographic research in Boston, MA on the teaching and transmission of national history through guided tours on the Freedom Trail located in downtown Boston. The first-time anthropological fieldworker experience was a mixture of achievements and failures, leaving me with more questions than answers, both academically and personally. Grad school or not, life itself is a greater field, and an anthropologist's mind set can be a very helpful survival tool.
