Bringing Human Rights Home

As a leader in protecting human rights worldwide, Amnesty International has taken an unprecedented shift to bring human rights home. With over 300 million members worldwide, strategic mobilization and focused planning is important for effective change. I had the transformative opportunity to observe, learn, and engage with the ways Amnesty International promotes human rights work. As a National Member Advocacy Intern, I worked with staff to develop and direct Amnesty’s Legislative Coordinators across the U.S. who specialize in advocating for human rights through legislation. This presentation will demonstrate how Amnesty’s lobbying initiatives work and how they can be replicated on a global scale. In addition, this presentation will discuss Amnesty’s new “End Gun Violence” campaign and how a Mount Holyoke student has the power to contribute to a national human rights campaign.
