Expanding into Governmental Affairs
I interned at the Greater Holyoke Chamber of Commerce as an extension of an internship that I had held during the academic year since spring 2013. I will cover how I initially acquired this position and how it became a summer internship opportunity. I took on additional duties with a focus on governmental affairs and public relations. My panel will further explain approaches to transitioning between part- and full-time positions. In addition, it will expound upon the challenges of representing community business interests while working for a nonprofit institution. It will also explore the difficulties and rewards of working in a diverse urban setting. Finally, the panel will seek to explain the functions of a chamber of commerce and to explain its necessary relationship with local and state government.
