One of the great joys of my work for and at Mount Holyoke is the opportunity to see — on a daily basis — the many remarkable ways that the broad College community contributes to the legacy of excellence and leadership in the education of our students. The depth of your commitment as loyal ambassadors, dedicated volunteers and generous donors makes a difference to who we are and what we are able to do together to advance learning, develop empathy and enhance human understanding.

Our work on campus and in academic programs beyond our gates would be impossible without you. More than 9,000 individuals gave to Mount Holyoke last year. Every gift makes a difference: You empower our students with scholarship aid, ensure access to transformative experiences on campus and around the world, sustain faculty excellence as they pursue research on everything from nanoparticles to the crisis of globalization in 19th-century Europe, and promote the extraordinary network of alumnae and friends who are always at the ready to support fellow graduates, students and professors. 

As you read about our exceptional students and faculty in the pages that follow, I hope that you will see in their stories just a little of the impact you are having in their lives. While it is impossible to capture fully in one publication the diversity of voices and experiences at Mount Holyoke, these wonderful examples testify to the many ways in which your generosity fuels the rigorous pursuit of learning, the commitment to intellectual and personal exploration, and the ubiquitous opportunities for leadership that we witness every day on campus.

Thank you for your steadfast and generous commitment to Mount Holyoke College. Your financial investment ensures our students flourish beyond their wildest imaginings, our faculty excel in their teaching and research, and our global network of more than 38,000 graduates proudly carry the mantle of their alma mater.

With the introduction of this annual Report on Philanthropy, we are pleased to enhance our efforts to keep you informed of the impact of your generosity. In fiscal year 2019 (July 1, 2018–June 30, 2019), more than $28.6 million was given to support Mount Holyoke’s mission. Equally important, 31 percent of alumnae made a contribution to the College, giving back and paying it forward to help the next generation of changemakers. We owe special thanks to the 7,500 members of the Laurel Chain Society — alumnae and friends who make Mount Holyoke a philanthropic priority each and every year — as well as to the members of the Mary Lyon Society, who have committed to creating a legacy for the College through their estate or have established a charitable trust or annuity.

With stewardship of our financial and environmental resources a top priority, we have included the full list of donors for fiscal year 2019.
