Who works at the SAW Center?

Mount Holyoke undergraduates, across all class years, staff the SAW Center in the MEWS on the main level of Dwight Hall.

What kind of help will I receive from a mentor?

The SAW Center is designed to offer students a unique opportunity to get useful feedback on their writing and speaking assignments. SAW mentors will discuss your assignment with you and make suggestions on approaching a topic, organizing a paper, developing your style, refining your thesis, or correcting recurring errors. They will discuss your product and process. Mentors may also direct you to other resources for further assistance. Mentors will not edit or proofread a paper or write any part of your paper for you.

How can I schedule an appointment at the Center?

To schedule an appointment at the SAW Center, please make your appointment online. You will be asked to register with a username (use your full Mount Holyoke email address) and password.

I am a five college student, can I use the Center?

Yes, the SAW Center is resource available to all members of the five college consortium. Please use your full college email address when you create an account in the online scheduler.

How long are SAW Center appointments?

SAW mentors are available for 30 minute and 60 minute appointments.

How many appointments can I schedule per week?

Students are permitted two appointment hours per week, in addition to unlimited drop-in appointments, and students can meet the maximum weekly limit by scheduling two 60 minute appointments. four 30 minute appointments, or a combination of both 60 and 30 minute appointments.

When are drop-in hours?

The SAW Center has morning and evening drop-in hours. The morning drop-in hour is 10-11am and the evening drop-in hour is 7-8pm. Drop-in appointments will not count toward your weekly appointment limit.

What type of assignment can I bring to the Center?

SAW mentors are trained to assist their peers with reflection responses, lab reports, analytical papers,application essays, presentations, personal statements, speeches, and more.

I have just begun my assignment, can I still come?

Absolutely. You can visit the SAW Center during any stage of your assignment. SAW mentors offer support at all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming to the final draft.

Is the SAW Center open during Reading Days?

Yes, the SAW Center has an extended schedule during Reading Days each semester that will be posted to the online scheduler.

Is the Center open during Final Examinations Week?

The SAW Center is closed during the examination period at the end of each semester.

How can I cancel my SAW appointment?

You can modify or cancel your appointment by logging in to the online scheduler. You can cancel your session up to 24 hours ahead of time in the online scheduler, otherwise you may call the SAW Center at 413-538-2651 to speak with a receptionist.
