Title IX at Mount Holyoke College

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 requires that all educational institutions that receive federal funds or financial assistance prohibit sex discrimination in their education programs and activities. Sexual Harassment and sexual violence are forms of sex discrimination. These umbrella terms also include discrimination or harassment based on gender, gender identity or gender expression.

Mount Holyoke is committed to creating and maintaining a community in which all its members including students, faculty, staff and visitors can live and work together in an environment free from discrimination, including based upon sex or gender.

Responsibilities of the Title IX Coordinator

Mount Holyoke’s Title IX Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and oversight of the overall implementation of the college’s Title IX compliance, including the coordination of training, education, communication and the administration of Gender Based and Sexual Misconduct Policy for faculty, staff, students and other members of the college community as they pertain to Title IX.

The Deputy Title IX Coordinators assist with various Title IX implementation activities that involve faculty, staff, and students. They also receive reports of sex discrimination and sexual misconduct.

Complaints Under Title IX

Mount Holyoke College is required under Title IX to prevent and address sexual discrimination, which includes gender-based and sexual misconduct against students, faculty, and staff whether perpetrated by peers or by employees of the institution. The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for investigating all forms of gender-based and sexual misconduct. Accordingly, if you have a complaint of gender-based or sexual discrimination or misconduct, you should file a complaint with the Title IX Coordinator, a Deputy Title IX Coordinator or by filling out our online reporting form, which can also be completed anonymously.

Seek Medical Attention

A medical exam, include a Sexual Assault Nurse Exam, can be used to assess and treat physical injuries and review the possible need for treatment of sexually transmitted disease or pregnancy, as well as preserve evidence for criminal proceedings.
